Bank Title: Canadian Bank of Commerce Yukon Grade: VF 20 NET
S960d/CH 75-14-04c 5 Dollars 2.1.1892
Description
Perhaps no other bank note sparks historic images as strongly as a Yukon note. The Yukon Territory was created in 1898; to this day, it remains sparsely populated. During the Yukon Gold Rush, a plethora of prospectors tried their luck with the vast majority largely unsuccessful. Reclining allegorical woman with lamp and bank seal/bank building. YUKON overprint; appears to be black, but actually is dark blue. Extremely rare; one expert believes about 17 total known in all four color overprints (purple, brown, and green are the other hues). PMG terms this piece "NET VF 20", perhaps a slightly generous grade, with "residue from previous mounting". In such demand that this type graces the cover of the Charlton catalog. This example is the best condition piece I have seen in the last few years; always desirable for any collection.
