2018 IPMS Auction - June > 2018 IPMS Auction - Session 2 - June 8 @ 6:30PM (CDT) - Error Notes, Small Size, ETC

Lot #19794 - Error Notes > Large Size Silver Certificates - ($ 350.00 - $ 500.00)
Fr. 238 $1 1923 Folding Error
A cool folding error on the lower left corner. Seldom seen on large size notes.
Grade: F/VF
Lot #19795 - Error Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 1,000.00 - $ 1,500.00)
Fr. 1621 $1 1957-B U-A Mismatch Serials
An amazing grade for this mismatch error. Never seen better.
Grade: PMG Superb Gem 68 EPQ
Lot #19796 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 20,000.00 - $ 40,000.00)
Fr. 1500* $1 1928* *-A
This is one of the most interesting notes in the sale. It was held by Roger Radke of Oak Creek Coin & Currency for decades - in his 'keeper' pile. There are only 43 stars know for this type. This one is consecutive to #800007643*, sold recently, and there is only one other graded '64'. It was saved as the better one all those years ago. Gem because of the generally seen poorly cut notes available, but there are recent findings of well centered notes. It's very pretty.
Grade: PMG Gem UNC 65 EPQ
Lot #19797 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 7,500.00 - $ 12,500.00)
Fr. 1500* $1 1928* #*00004114A
There are only 43 stars reported in this type and only five are possibly better, a '40', '58', '63', '64' and UNC. Clearly this is a very nice circ star note and worthy of a great collection. Notes of this grade rarely appear.
Grade: PMG Ch. VF 35
Lot #19798 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 5,000.00 - $ 8,000.00)
Fr. 1500 $1 1928 #A00000082A & A00000083A Uncut Pair
An amazing pair with double digit serial #82 and #83. I can only find two sales records of double digit Fr. 1500s which includes a #34 in '63' at $1,725 and #12 at $8,225. This should create plenty of interest.
Grade: Very Ch. CU
Lot #19799 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 2,500.00 - $ 3,500.00)
Fr. 1500* $1 1928* *-A
This note faces up extremely well with a full cherry colored seal, and doesn’t have the "washed" look that many of these very rare stars have. PCGS notes: minor edge splits, small rust stain in left margin.
Grade: PCGS Fine 15
Lot #19800 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 1,750.00 - $ 3,500.00)
Fr. 1500 $1 1928 #A00000058A
A lovely and fresh Ch. CU 64. Among the lowest numbers ever seen and from the first pack, which I believe were sold as uncut sheets, not singles.
Grade: PCGS Very Ch. New 64 PPQ
Lot #19801 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 1,250.00 - $ 2,500.00)
Fr. 1501 $2 1928 #A00000020A
Super low serial #20 on the first small size Deuce. A Deuce with a 2 in the binary serial number.
Grade: PCGS Ch. Abt. New 58 PPQ
Lot #19802 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 1,000.00 - $ 2,000.00)
Fr. 1500* $1 1928* #*00000514A
A well used red seal $1 star with serial #*00000514A. There are only 43 serial numbers recorded and we have 3 in this sale including this low quality note, a lovely VF, and a fresh UNC.
Grade: PCGS VG 8
Lot #19803 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 450.00 - $ 650.00)
Fr. 1500 $1 1928 A-A
Low serial number from a rare range in the 2000 serial number area. Most of these notes are under 1000 or above 5000.
Grade: PMG UNC 62 EPQ
Lot #19804 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 350.00 - $ 500.00)
Fr. 1500 $1 1928 A-A
A nice and fresh red seal.
Grade: Ch. CU
Lot #19804.a - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 1,250.00 - $ 2,500.00)
Fr. 1501* $2 1928* *-A
While there are examples graded higher than this note, we doubt that many of those could be as pretty. Possessing superb originality, fire engine red inks and blinding bright paper. In the past year we have seen '63 PPQ' notes approach the $1,000 mark and 64 PPQ hit the $1500 figure.
Grade: PCGS Very Ch. New 64 PPQ
Lot #19805 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 700.00 - $ 900.00)
Fr. 1503 $2 1928-B B-A
A lovely example of the key to the set. It's a nice, fresh and original '64 PPQ' with excellent color. There are only 381 recorded in all grades. This is a scarce variety B-A block.
Grade: PCGS Very Ch. New 64 PPQ
Lot #19806 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 600.00 - $ 1,200.00)
Fr. 1503 $2 1928-B B-A
A bright and well centered example of this key red seal deuce.
Grade: Ch. UNC
Lot #19807 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 500.00 - $ 1,000.00)
Fr. 1504 $2 1928-C B-A Uncut Pair
This gem pair of 1928-C Legals first sold for $575 in 2004.
Grade: PMG Gem 65 EPQ
Lot #19808 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 650.00 - $ 1,000.00)
Fr. 1504* $2 1928-C *-A
The 1928-C is a very scarce star with only 115 recorded and most are not as nice and fresh as this circ example graded '45 PPQ'.
Grade: PCGS XF 45 PPQ
Lot #19809 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
Fr. 1505* $2 1928-D *-A
A stunning peach of a red seal star with which the winning bidder will not be disappointed. We call this Choice CU but grading services, in their oft-seen moments of unpredictability, could deem this to be just about any grade imaginable.
Grade: Ch. UNC
Lot #19810 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 750.00 - $ 1,250.00)
Fr. 1507* $2 1928-F *-A
A fresh and well centered Gem 65 EPQ star note. A wonderful example for a Gem star note collector.
Grade: PMG Gem UNC 65 EPQ

A gorgeous Superb Gem UNC 67 EPQ that seems to have inarguable quality. WOW is my best descriptor.
Grade: PMG Superb Gem 67 EPQ

Lot #19816 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 1,250.00 - $ 2,500.00)
Fr. 1525 $5 1928 D-A
This is the rare and seldom offered D-A block on this lovely Very Ch. CU 64 PPQ example. Auction results for UNCs or circs are few and far between.
Grade: PCGS Very Ch. CU 64 PPQ
Lot #19817 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 3,500.00 - $ 6,500.00)
Fr. 1526* $5 1928-A* *-A
This bright star is pedigreed to the Thomas Flynn Collection where it brought over $6,900 and we sold a PCGS 62 at $11,500 in 2011. This note is still very high quality for the grade. There are only 26 stars reported with 3 listing as better.
Grade: PMG Abt. UNC 50
Lot #19818 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
Fr. 1526 $5 1928-A #D00000060A
A scarce series and a very low binary serial number.
Grade: PCGS Ch. Abt. New 58 PPQ
Lot #19819 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 600.00 - $ 1,200.00)
Fr. 1528* $5 1928-C* *-A
Except for the bottom left margin straying a hair too close, this is a $1,000 gem in every manner. Fire engine red inks and cavernous embossing are noticed at every turn.
Grade: PCGS Very Ch. New 64 PPQ
Lot #19820 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 1,250.00 - $ 2,500.00)
Fr. 1528* $5 1928-C* *-A Mule
A really tough Mule star note in a lofty state of preservation. PCGS has yet to grade a CU example and they really are that scarce even in AU condition. The third best at PCGS and it is easy to see why. The paper is bright and the inks are as vivid as the day the note was printed.
Grade: PCGS Abt. New 53
Lot #19821 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 4,500.00 - $ 6,500.00)
Fr. 1529* $5 1928-D* *-A
Here is a rare and elusive star that is 1 of 31 serial numbers recorded. The finest, I assume a '66 PPQ', realized $49,350 last year, and that's a lot of money. We expect this fresh and original example to bring in the $4,500-6,500 range.
Grade: PCGS Ch. New 63 PPQ
Lot #19822 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 1,500.00 - $ 3,000.00)
Fr. 1530 $5 1928-E G-A 12 Subject Uncut Sheet
A scarce $5 Legal Tender sheet with few issued. A nice appearance.
Grade: PCGS Ch. New 63
Lot #19823 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 500.00 - $ 1,000.00)
Fr. 1532* $5 1953* *-A
Both services have combined to grade over 200 examples of this better later date star and have deemed only three pieces to be better than this one. We doubt that anything about this note's quality could be improved upon......it is essentially flawless as is.
Grade: PCGS Gem New 66 PPQ
Lot #19824 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 800.00 - $ 1,600.00)
Fr. 1533* $5 1953-A* *-A
The two services have combined to grade over 400 examples of this 1953-A series star, and only a trio of notes have gotten something better than a 67 grade.
Grade: PCGS Superb Gem New 67 PPQ
Lot #19825 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 150,000.00 - $ 300,000.00)
Fr. 1550 $100 1966 #A00000001A
From our John Whitney Walter sale in 2004 where the note was described as: 'The first pack, or brick, of 1966 Legal Tender notes were found by Phil Lampkin (as the story goes in Puerto Rico) and he contacted Amon Carter, Jr. who helped Lampkin and then acquired the pack. We know he kept the #1 and #5 notes for this collection. When the Carter estate was dispersed, John Rowe sold this note for an unheard-of price of $6,000 to a private collector, from whose estate he recently acquired it. What I have been trying to understand is why they were issued in the first place. It is John Rowe's belief that the law required a certain amount of Legal Tender notes to be in circulation and that issuing $100s was the easiest thing to do at the time, as the Federal Reserve note had replaced the $5 Legal Tender and the Government was not ready to end the Legal Tender series. This $100 Legal Tender remains one of the greatest prizes among small size collectors, and an opportunity to have the first note printed is one that only three individuals have had the privilege of owning in the last 38 years. This is your opportunity to own one of America's numismatic treasures.' It's been 14 years since this note last appeared and it remains at or near the top of all small size rarities.

Lot #19826 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 10,000.00 - $ 15,000.00)
Fr. 1550* $100 1966* # *00000037A & A00000037A
I can only imagine that this sale has the finest offering of $100 Legal Tenders ever. A matched pair of serial #37 and #37* are spectacular to go with the serial #1 and all of the other gorgeous low serial numbers. The only other low number star listed in the census is #22 as a 64 PPQ, last year it realized $4,700 by itself. This two piece lot includes a non-star graded Very Ch. New 64 PPQ and the star note is Gem New 65 PPQ.
Grade: PCGS Graded
Lot #19827 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 2,250.00 - $ 3,750.00)
Fr. 1550 $100 1966 #A00000043A
When it rains it pours and our cup of amazing $100 Legal Tenders is definitely brimming with wonderful examples. This low serial #43 is '66 EPQ'.
Grade: PMG Gem UNC 66 EPQ
Lot #19828 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 2,500.00 - $ 5,000.00)
Fr. 1550 $100 1966 #A00000066A
A special binary serial number with Gem quality and from the first pack. Three years ago we sold #75 in Ch. CU at $1,292, clearly showing the premium value of the double-digit Gem.
Grade: PCGS Gem New 65 PPQ
Lot #19829 - Small Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 2,000.00 - $ 3,000.00)
Fr. 1550 $100 1966 #A00313333A
This seems to be a fancy number and a superb example at that. A meaningful top quality example with extra desirability.
Grade: PCGS Superb Gem 67 PPQ
Lot #19830 - Small Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 1,250.00 - $ 2,500.00)
Fr. 1601* $1 1928-A* *-A
Only two are graded better at PCGS but we have not seen them and it is not likely that they could look any more pristine that the presently offered piece. Everything about the quality of this note is first rate and there isn't much doubt that the winning bidder will have to break the $1000 threshold in order to secure it.
Grade: PCGS Gem New 66 PPQ
Lot #19832 - Small Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 400.00 - $ 600.00)
Fr. 1601 & 1602 $1 1928-A & 1928-B Changeover Pair
Here is a B-B Block Changeover pair from 1928-A to 1928-B. Both notes have been stored together for quite some time, as there is some reverse imaging seen on the back of each note, most likely being stored in a damp environment.
Grade: Abt. UNC
Lot #19833 - Small Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 350.00 - $ 550.00)
Fr. 1602 & 1601 $1 1928-B & 1928-A Reverse Changeover Pair
From the same run that produced the earlier Changeover Pair, this Reverse Pair is only five serials later. Stored together for awhile, as the backs of each note has some reverse images of notes, likely from being in a damp place.
Grade: Abt. CU
Lot #19834 - Small Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 2,000.00 - $ 4,000.00)
Fr. 1605 $1 1928-E F72000200B
Since this block began with note F72000001B, this is a low serial number note #200. Only a slightly wider bottom margin would be required to secure a gem grade. This key 1928-E series silver certificate is sure to please.
Grade: PCGS Very Ch. CU 64 PPQ
Lot #19835 - Small Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 1,500.00 - $ 2,000.00)

Lot #19837 - Small Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 2,000.00 - $ 3,000.00)
Fr. 1609 $1 1935-A 'R' S-C
Records indicate this was the ninth serial number printed for this experimental issue. As I recall Aubrey Bebee once had the entire early run of these. This note is truly a Gem.
Grade: PCGS Gem New 65 PPQ
Lot #19838 - Small Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 1,000.00 - $ 2,000.00)
Fr. 1609 $1 1935-A 'R' S-C
Not only is the gorgeous note seemingly under graded, it's also just the 14th example printed. Sure looks amazing to me.
Grade: PMG Gem UNC 65 EPQ
Lot #19839 - Small Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 2,000.00 - $ 3,000.00)
Fr. 1610 $1 1935-A 'S' S-C
This note is beautifully centered and it was only the third note printed for this experimental issue. As I recall, all of these early notes came from A. Bebee, and likely previously from James Wade.
Grade: PMG Gem UNC 65 EPQ
Lot #19840 - Small Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 450.00 - $ 650.00)

Lot #19852 - Small Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 4,000.00 - $ 8,000.00)
Fr. 1657* $5 1953-B* *-A
A latter day rarity is this 1953-B series star note. Until about fifteen years ago these rarely ever surfaced but since that time probably an average of one per year is auctioned. Through the holder this has all the appeal of a pleasing Choice CU example, as we cannot locate the reason for the assigned AU designation. A note that always sells for a strong four-figure price at this grade level and even five figures in CU grades.
Grade: PCGS Ch. Abt. New 58
Lot #19853 - Small Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)

Lot #19854 - Small Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 1,000.00 - $ 2,000.00)
Fr. 1701* $10 1934* *-A
A very challenging early $10 star note that only requires a broader bottom margin to have achieved a far better grade. Embossing is seen at every turn and the blue ink colors practically jump through the holder. Last September we saw a PMG Ch. UNC 64 EPQ sell for $1200 and that note was only two numbers removed from this one.
Grade: PMG Ch. UNC 63 EPQ
Lot #19855 - Small Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 8,000.00 - $ 14,000.00)
Fr. 1705* $10 1934-D* *-A
A gorgeous Superb Gem New 67 PPQ and clearly better than all the others. There are a total of 83 star notes reported but they pale in comparison to this outstanding example. In 2008, a decade ago, a '63' realized $17,250, allowing this to be an excellent value.
Grade: PCGS Superb Gem New 67 PPQ
Lot #19856 - Small Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 4,000.00 - $ 8,000.00)
Fr. 1705* $10 1934-D* *-A
A wonderful grade for this really tough $10 star note. The margin size and centering from the face gives the appearance of a better grade but the back is shifted a smidge too high. The originality is not to be questioned and the paper is flawless. In the recently completed Central States sale, a PMG Ch. UNC 64 EPQ sold for $2400 and that note cannot hold a candle to this piece. PCGS has graded one better and one other 65 PPQ. A great note.
Grade: PCGS Gem New 65 EPQ
Lot #19857 - Small Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 3,000.00 - $ 5,000.00)
Fr. 1705* $10 1934-D* *-A
There are only 83 stars listed for this serial, in all grades, and they rarely appear. This example appears even better than its grade, likely because the front is so perfect and the back is just a tick too high.
Grade: PCGS Very Ch. CU 64 PPQ
Lot #19858 - Small Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Bank Notes - ($ 500.00 - $ 1,000.00)

Strong embossing and bold print quality attest to the assigned EPQ designation. These are always very desirable at this grade level.

This district and denomination are truly rare in this '64 EPQ' grade. Last year we sold a non-EPQ at $4,993. This note is closer to the finest known. There are only 60 notes listed in all grades but probably only four or less in this quality or better.

On the surface this may not seem like much of a note but it actually is. There is a single 67 better at PCGS and even in Gem 66PPQ grade this is a scarce piece. This same note sold for a whopping $1880 in 2015 and, while it is not likely to show a repeat performance, it could very easily slip into our estimate range.

These notes are as printed and are still in the original government packaging from when they were randomly sold. I know there are those that would prefer the serial #2 star set of Deuces more than they would the serial #1 set. Because we are very fortunate we have the matching serial #2 star set to offer here as well. The only example I could find a sales result for was serial #4 from Boston at $1,725. Tied with two others for Top Pop at both services combined. Leviathan margins and picture perfect centering validate the third party grade given to this San Francisco $100 FRN. This is, without a doubt, one of the greatest small size rarities. Even today, in all grades, there are only 79 serial numbers reported. The real shocker is that there are now 16 stars reported, and Rev. Frank Hutchins had the first reported in the 1970s. This note sold for $51,750 in 2007 and today it remains one of the 9 best reported.

Fr. 2309* $10 1934-A* *-A
Tied for Top Pop at both services. You can count on one hand the number of Gem 66PQ notes that both PMG and PCGS have graded. A great note, even for this lofty grade, and a perfect high-grade representative for any small size type set. The first time this same note sold at public auction almost a decade ago it realized over $6000. The consecutive note to this sold for close to $5000 its first time out of the gate.

A gorgeous star note in Ch. CU grade, just centered a little to the left for a Gem. In 2007 a '66' realized $3,840, and a decade ago on realized $5,175 in '64'. This note is lovely and offers excellent value in the estimate range.

Uncancelled. PCGS notes severed and repaired, small edge nicks and tears, backed. Notes from this 1770 series are the earliest from this colony that are readily obtainable. It remains well signed and very boldly printed. As an uncancelled note it is quite a prize at this grade level.

Lot #20015 - Colonial Currency > Delaware - ($ 750.00 - $ 1,500.00)
DE-30 20 Shillings February 28, 1746
A rare early Delaware issued note that was printed by Benjamin Franklin. PCGS notes a host of issues, most of which should really be considered as part of the About Good grade. For a note in this grade it is remarkable that the serial number and signatures are still primarily legible. In recent years we have seen a couple of Apparent graded Fine notes sell for around $2500 each.

Scarce and very desirable Ben Franklin issue. Seen with several splits and tears but good detail overall in the text and signatures. The 20 shilling note from this issue, like with several of the Franklin issues, is by far the most available.

Lot #20023 - Colonial Currency > Maryland - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
MD-48 $8 January 1, 1767
Signed by Couden and Clapham. PCGS notes severed, splits, tears, tape repairs. These 1767 notes are much more difficult to obtain and because the paper was thicker and crisper than the 1774 notes, they are almost always seen with tears, splits and other damage. VF 30 is an excellent grade and it certainly has a much better appearance than would be indicative of a typical VF.

MD-63-67 $1/3 to $2 April 10, 1774 Vertical Strip of Four Notes
A stunning multiple that is as fine as any we have seen (which includes the Boyd example). Each of the four notes in this vertical strip are superbly printed, wonderfully signed, and as crisp and fresh as the day they were made. As individual AU notes these would cumulatively be worth around $1200. As a handsome multiple such as this, the price of poker goes way up.

Lot #20025 - Colonial Currency > Massachusetts - ($ 500.00 - $ 1,000.00)
MA-284 $8 May 5, 1780
Pen cancelled. Really a heck of a note if you are someone who understands the nuances of colonial paper money. Excellent margins are seen on all sides of this later issue piece, with broad selvage seen at left. Crackling fresh paper and razor sharp printing validate the assignation of the PPQ designation. A nearly solid five-digit serial number, 14444, has not escaped notice. This is a lovely gem in most anyone's book. While not uncancelled, pen cancelled examples are far superior to all the different hole cancelled types and are much more valuable.

Unlisted in Andersen. A very scarce piece of colonial era fiscal paper that should not be overlooked. Two hole punch cancels seen at center top and bottom. Certificate of Liquidated Debt $72 June 13, 1788
Received of Nathaniel Gilman, Continental Loan Officer for the State of New Hampshire. Printed on laid paper. Interest payable to December 31, 1786. A great item and unlisted in Anderson. The only other one we have seen was very similar, graded PCGS AU 58, and selling for close to $900 in the past couple of years. If you are a devotee of New Hampshire Colonial era fiscal items then this is a must on your want list.

Lot #20031 - Colonial Currency > New Jersey - ($ 600.00 - $ 1,200.00)
NJ-96 12 Shillings June 22, 1756
To the casual observer this note seems like a well signed and well printed colonial. To the cognoscenti of the realm of colonial currency, this note is roughly 97.3% fully framed, with a particularly behemoth margin along the top. Your cataloger places this in the top 1% (and likely top 0.1%) in terms of margin size for the entire issue. PMG appears to be particularly critical in their assessment of this stunning piece. A typical Choice CU note from this series is worth around $500.......the present offering should sell for much, much more.

Green Back. Rare 6 Pound denomination. PCGS notes edge splits and minor stains. A real treasure of a note that is not to be confused with the nice CU examples of the lower denominations. The original printing was 625 pieces, with few survivors known. An early New Jersey note that will likely sell for a fraction of what it should really be worth.

Virtually Top Pop, although it should be noted that every piece that PCGS has graded from this condition-challenged series has received the Apparent grade. Our vast experience in colonial currency and a perusal through auction archives tells us that this is just about the best graded note you will find. PCGS mentions some edge splits and tears but they are of little bother. The Midnight Ride note graded Apparent VF 25 and topped the $850 mark, while the Newman piece is this exact PCGS grade and it sold for $960 six months ago.

Harris H17. Found on page 305 in Newman. PCGS notes design redrawn and back mounting remnants. Printed by Hugh Gaine. Engraved signature of D. Phoenix, City Treasurer. Newman cites that these were produced "to satisfy the want of small change." Most are well worn and usually have problems. This is the second nicest example at either service and one of only two graded CU. A prize piece for either the colonial paper money collector or early obsolete note collector. The Newman 3 pence note was an Apparent VF 20 and sold for just under $200. Exceptional grade and rare at this level.

NY-290 Bank of New York Checks $300 and $3000 1796-1797
Unlisted in Anderson. Stunning and rare checks on the Bank of New York. The first is for $300 and dated Aug. 8, 1797 with the second for $3000 and dated Sept. 1, 1796. Both are Cross-Cut cancelled and pen cancelled. Although made out to two different people, both are signed by Archibald Gracie. Gracie was a shipping magnate and merchant in New York and Virginia. The eponymous Gracie Mansion houses the Mayor of New York City. The only comparable example that we have been able to find in recent years was signed by Robert Morris. That piece was only VF with hinge repairs and tears and it still saw a realization over $700. This rare and seemingly unique pair should garner a lot of attention from the colonial fiscal collectors who have come to the forefront in recent years.

Much scarcer high denomination note. PCGS notes small repairs at left, but this just looks more like pinhole scratching. Leviathan margins, superior signatures and bright paper will make this a real catch for one lucky participant. This same note sold for over $550 in 2014.

One of the scarcest series in post-1750 colonial currency, known as the "Hillsborough issue." At lower left is a vignette of Hermes with the motto "12 United Colonies." This was due to the fact that Georgia had not yet sent a representative to the Continental Congress. While this note has plenty of splits and tears, tape repair, missing edge pieces, etc. it should be noted that many of the Newman notes from this issue looked similar or worse that this piece and graded Apparent Fine. The $1 note from the Newman collection graded PCGS Apparent Fine 12 and sold for $1,762.50.

Top Pop at both services by a country mile. A picture perfect example of this very scarce denomination that only bore one motto. The Latin motto "Fundamentum Mihi Aere Perennius" is translated by Newman as "A Foundation for Me More Enduring Than Bronze." The Newman note was a toned VF 35 that cannot hold a candle to this piece, and that note went over the $300 mark. This should easily sell for multiples of that figure.

A very challenging 1770s Rhode Island issue from which to locate quality notes. This example should fit the bill for even the fussiest of collectors. PCGS notes a few problems on the back of the holder. They have graded three examples of this 4 shilling denomination and they are all Apparent graded. We know of the others so we can say confidently that this is Top Pop. The note that grades Apparent VF 20 sold for $881 in a 2014 sale.
Grade: PCGS XF 40
Lot #20055 - Colonial Currency > Rhode Island - ($ 500.00 - $ 1,000.00)
RI-244 $1/2 September 5, 1776
A much scarcer 1770s era Rhode Island issue, particularly in a comment-free holder. The Newman example graded PCGS VF 25 and realized over $700.
Grade: PCGS VF 20
Lot #20056 - Colonial Currency > Rhode Island - ($ 1,500.00 - $ 3,000.00)
RI-265 $1/24 May 22, 1777
A fractional denomination Rhode Island issue from which CU notes are legitimately rare. There is a single note at either service that has been deemed to be better than the current offering. That note, which is seven numbers away from this one, sold twice 10-12 years ago for over $2000 in each instance. This is a rare note at this grade level and the fact that it will transcend the thousand dollar barrier is all but a foregone conclusion.
Grade: PMG UNC 62
Lot #20057 - Colonial Currency > South Carolina - ($ 750.00 - $ 1,500.00)
SC-127 50 Pounds March 6, 1776
A much scarcer high denomination note from this better South Carolina series. PCGS notes splits, damage, repairs, and design redrawn. The note itself is bright, well margined, boldly printed and well signed. The Newman note graded PCGS Apparent VF 35 and topped the $1500 mark. This eye appealing catch will make a triumphant entry into one lucky bidder's collection.
Grade: PCGS VF 20
Lot #20058 - Colonial Currency > South Carolina - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
SC-138a $4 Fully Signed December 23, 1776
PCGS notes mounting remnants on back. Four signatures and serial number makes this note fully signed and issued. Much scarcer as such than high-grade remainders.
Grade: PCGS VF 30
Lot #20059 - Colonial Currency > South Carolina - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
SC-157 $80 February 8, 1779
PMG notes repaired, stained. This series was printed by Thomas Coram. Well signed and one of the better denominations.
Grade: PMG Ch. VF 35 Net
Lot #20060 - Colonial Currency > South Carolina - ($ 1,000.00 - $ 2,000.00)
SC-158 $90 February 8, 1779
PMG mentions Stains which are confined to the back of the note. Back vignette displays Hercules strangling the Nemean lion. Engraved by Thomas Coram. This is one of the three later unauthorized denominations ($50, $70, $90). The Newman note graded PCGS AU 55 PPQ and sold for over $3000.
Grade: PMG Abt. UNC 50
Lot #20061 - Colonial Currency > Virginia - ($ 600.00 - $ 900.00)
VA-76a 12 Shillings 6 Pence Small Size July 17, 1775
A seldom seen issue, with Track and Price only having four listings for the combined varieties of this denomination, the last being in 2015. PCGS Currency mentions a small edge split at bottom center on the back of the holder.
Grade: PCGS VF 30
Lot #20062 - Colonial Currency > Virginia - ($ 700.00 - $ 1,400.00)
VA-79a 3 Pounds July 17, 1775
Signed by Phillip Johnson and William Norvell. The highest denomination from the small ordinance notes bearing this date. Legitimately rare at the problem-free XF grade level. A real treat for one fortunate bidder. The Newman note graded AU 58 (due to foxing spots) and it still catapulted for $1680.
Grade: PMG XF 40
Lot #20063 - Colonial Currency > Virginia - ($ 600.00 - $ 1,200.00)
VA-80b 5 Pounds Large Size Format July 17, 1775
A lovely large format Ashby note with PCGS noting Splits and tears, small hole near bottom right. Due to the oversized nature of these thinner paper notes, they almost always were left with numerous condition issues. A really pretty example for the grade.
Grade: PCGS VF 20
Lot #20064 - Colonial Currency > Virginia - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
VA-84 5 Pounds September 1, 1775
Exciting James River Bank form. Most of these oversized notes have problems and this is no exception; splits, tears, damage, repairs, pieces replaced are cited. Always worth whatever it takes to obtain it.
Grade: PCGS Fine 15
Lot #20065 - Colonial Currency > Virginia - ($ 500.00 - $ 1,000.00)
VA-97 $4 May 6, 1776
Almost Top Pop at PCGS with a single 45 ahead of it. Wide margins add to its appeal. There are many later issue Virginia colonials that are sleeper rarities at this grade level and without any problems.......this is one of them.
Grade: PCGS XF 40
Lot #20066 - Colonial Currency > Virginia - ($ 1,500.00 - $ 3,000.00)
VA-172 $2 May 1, 1780
A gigantic right margin is seen on this conservatively graded Virginia Guaranteed colonial. The signatures are boldly accomplished and the paper quality is almost as fresh as a modern FRN. Countersigned on the verso by Webb. A great note at this grade level and exuding such a high level of eye appeal.
Grade: PMG Ch. UNC 63 EPQ
Lot #20067 - Colonial Currency > Virginia - ($ 1,250.00 - $ 2,500.00)
VA-175 $5 May 1, 1780
If one follows the strict letter of the law then the right margin is trimmed too tight and the note graded Unc 62. If one considers the overall merits of this gorgeous piece, which includes three large margins, boldly accomplished signatures, cavernous embossing, and depth of printing, then you realize it is something far more special than that.
Grade: PMG UNC 62 EPQ
Lot #20068 - Colonial Currency > Virginia - ($ 700.00 - $ 1,400.00)
VA-192 $100 October 16, 1780
A miracle of survival is this astounding 1780 Virginia colonial. These notes were printed on rice paper and almost all of them had tears, cracks, holes, ink erosion, etc. due to the nature of the thin and brittle paper. For any note to grade XF and be awarded the PPQ designation is a statistical outlier. Do not be surprised when our estimate looks foolishly conservative.
Grade: PCGS XF 40 PPQ
Lot #20069 - Colonial Currency > Virginia - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
VA-223 $1200 May 7, 1781
Notes from this final issue were printed on thick laid paper. Printed by John Dunlap and noted in lower cartouche. PCGS notes repairs, design redrawn, minor splits. This $1200 denomination is only found in this final Virginia issue and is really quite scarce.
Grade: PCGS VF 25
Lot #20070 - Colonial Currency > Virginia - ($ 700.00 - $ 1,400.00)
VA-225 $2000 May 7, 1781
The highest denomination found on any piece of colonial currency. Signed by Bolling Stark, John Lyne, and J. Hopkins. By 1781 inflation in colonial Virginia was very high and this necessitated higher denomination notes. PMG notes: edge damage and previous mounting. The Newman note, which graded PCGS XF 45 Apparent, sold last year for $2,880.
Grade: PMG XF 40 Net
Lot #20071 - Colonial Currency > Miscellaneous - ($ 500.00 - $ 1,000.00)
Robert Morris North American Land Company Bond
Robert Morris signed this note heavily enough to have some ink erosion. Morris was known as the "Financier of the American Revolution." He signed the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, and the Constitution. He was also Pennsylvania's first senator. For these reasons, these bonds bearing his signature have always been extremely popular.

Lot #20072 - Confederate Notes - ($ 15,000.00 - $ 30,000.00)
T-4 $50 May 4, 1861
Montgomery notes are the stuff of legend and lore as concerns Confederate paper money. They are instantly recognizable with bold green ink colors throughout and detailed slave vignette at center. Although PCGS notes "Repairs" they are not particularly intrusive and do little to hinder the overall aesthetic beauty wielded by this piece of CSA history. Both signatures of Alexander B. Clitherall and E.C. Elmore remain strong. Issued July 1, 1861 by B.C. Pressley, Assistant Treasurer at Charleston, SC. The central verso also shows the penned signature of Henry Clark of Charleston, SC. Fully framed and with superb visual appeal. Approximately 180 T-4 notes are known and they always stride into five-figure territory. Tonight's offering should not prove any different.
Grade: PCGS VF 35
Lot #20073 - Confederate Notes - ($ 600.00 - $ 1,200.00)
T-8 $50 July 25, 1861
Low Serial Number 175. The technical grade is likely accurate but the note itself is so much prettier than what we tend to think of when we conjure an image of the "62" grade. As bright and well signed as the day it was printed. "For" written before Treasurer. The Newman note was a fairly ghastly looking PCGS Apparent VF 30 and it still sold for close to $200. This piece should bring multiples of that figure.
Grade: PCGS New 62 PPQ
Lot #20074 - Confederate Notes - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
T-11 $5 July 25, 1861
A much scarcer Confederate type. Blue "P" stamp seen at right. PCGS notes a litany of problems on the back of the holder, a typical occurrence for T-11 notes. Cut-Out cancelled. The Good 6 grade appears to this cataloger to be a bit too harsh of an assessment but we will let the bidders decide what they think.
Grade: PCGS Good 6
Lot #20075 - Confederate Notes - ($ 3,000.00 - $ 6,000.00)
T-12 $5 July 23, 1861
PF-1. Cr. 48. Somewhat better I plate. A scarce Manouvrier note that is infrequently seen in VF grade and in a comment-free holder. Most known notes are lower grade and have significant problems, with even many VF examples having seen some degree of restoration. This is the only 1861 type that displayed a printed back, and in this instance it is a far healthier shade of blue than what is typically seen. In our March PCDA sale, we sold a PMG VF 30 (with an uneven left border and some edge tone) for over $5500. The present offering is every bit as pleasing to the senses and should likely realize a similar price. A great note in a solid, problem-free grade.

Lot #20076 - Confederate Items - ($ 1,250.00 - $ 2,500.00)

Lot #20077 - Confederate Notes - ($ 800.00 - $ 1,600.00)
T-16 $50 September 2, 1861
Cross-cut cancelled. Faint glue remains on back. This is easily one of the prettiest T-16 notes that you will find as CU notes are legitimately rare. The Newman note was cross-cut cancelled in a PCGS AU 58 holder and it sold for $720. This stunning piece has great margins, wondrous ink colors and excellent paper.
Grade: UNC
Lot #20078 - Confederate Notes - ($ 1,500.00 - $ 3,000.00)
T-17 $20 September 2, 1861
A pristine T-17 Confederate note that looks like a lovely uncirculated note except for a broad lower right corner fold. The color remains superb and the printing quality is excellent. The last major auction result we can find at this grade level was a PCGS AU 58 that topped the $3000 mark in 2015. While this note is cross-cut cancelled, it is still an awesome note that someone will want to add to his collection. CU notes are legitimately rare for this type.

Lot #20079 - Confederate Notes - ($ 6,000.00 - $ 12,000.00)
T-22 $10 September 2, 1861
Cr. 151. An absolutely stunning example of this better early Confederate type that is the nicest to be seen publicly. Rich, vermillion inks and bold signatures remain as they were the day this beauty was printed. The depth of printing and the intricate details seen on the central Indian Family vignette are of a caliber rarely noticed. Generally the best grades that are encountered are really nice Very Fines, and this type is a legitimate rarity in XF or better condition. This note is the second nicest seen at either service and we doubt that the one graded 63PQ could be any prettier. In Stacks-Bowers sale of exceptional quality Confederate notes, held at the 2017 ANA, the best example the consignor could find was a 35PPQ note and that brought close to $3000. The Dave Noble example graded PCGS AU 58PPQ (with generally tight margins) and it sold for $9400. This note is the best that has been available and it should make a considerable run at the five-figure mark.

A new variety and R-10. Similar to 250F but with 'fac-simile Confederate Note' in the left margin. A wood-cut counterfeit with a number of differences between this note and other counterfeits seen. The most obvious difference is the FIVE DOLLAR legend, with the bar of the E in FIVE missing and the detail of the four corners is very crudely done. Plate J, imprint: none. Some flaws.

This is the only error of its kind that we can recall having seen and it is in high grade at that. On its own merits, a pretty Choice CU T-42 with bold printing and near cameo contrast is a $600-$700 piece. With this very unusual cutting error, one has to wonder just how high a price might be needed to acquire it.

This is the only Continental denomination that displays the double vignette as opposed to the typical nature print, with the double vignette being designed by Benjamin Franklin. There is only a single note better at PCGS, with that being a 64 (No PPQ). But for the left margin on this note being a little smaller than the others, this would be a screaming gem in every sense of the word. Typical Choice AU notes from this issue and denomination stretch into the upper hundreds of dollars. This pristine example should sell for much more.

The $70 denomination is only found in this eleventh and final Continental emission. Printing $70 and $80 notes was necessitated by the rampant inflation in Continental Currency. These notes were added along with the lowest denomination notes on the much scarcer first sheet of this issue. The lengthiest motto founded on Continental Currency, VIM PROCELLARUM QUADRENNIUM SUSTINUIT (For four years it has withstood the force of storm), is seen on this $70 note. The Newman example graded XF 45 PPQ and sold for a whopping $1,680 last November.

United States Congress Federal Indent $9 October 11, 1787
Only in an area such as colonial currency or colonial fiscal paper could a crushing rarity such as this not be worth $50,000. A "Hardy note" offered here this evening but far superior in most every regard to the other in the following lot. PMG notes pinholes, a fact that is almost laughable since these were printed on thin, onion skin paper and there are always small pinhole size separations in the paper. Wonderfully signed, superbly printed and with absolutely terrific eye appeal. Virtually all of the other indents that we see are from the September 1785 series. The only other example we can find from this October 1787 issuance is the $6 note plated in Newman on page 75. This $9 odd denomination is the only one we have ever seen and it is presumed to be unique. A great trophy item for a fraction of what its real value should be.

Lot #20105 - Continental Currency - ($ 2,500.00 - $ 5,000.00)
United States Congress Federal Indent $4 September 27, 1785
We are blessed this evening to have not only one, but two, of these Federal Indents. These indents were issued during the Articles of Confederation period from 1782 to 1787, as a means for the new Congress to try to redeem its paper money after the war. Virtually all of the examples we have seen bear this 1785 date. Signed by John Hardy and therefore commonly referred to as "Hardy notes." Just about the only ones we have seen in the past decade were parts of great collections, such as Newman and Midnight Ride. PMG notes some pinholes and stains, both of which are relatively minor issues when one considers that a few of the Newman notes had major restorations and still sold from $2000-$4000 each. A great note for the colonial currency or fiscal specialist.

Haxby CT-215 G2. Just a darn rare proof and one of only a couple that we have seen in the past decade or two (and easily the finer of the two). A solid black and white proof showing impressive pastoral vignettes. Only a slightly wider bottom margin would have been needed for a gem grade. Less than a couple of years ago we saw a $10 proof of this same series, graded PCGS Apparent AU 58, sell for $1000.
Grade: PCGS Very Ch. New 64 PPQ
Lot #20114 - Obsolete Notes & Miscellaneous Items > Delaware - ($ 1,250.00 - $ 2,500.00)
Wilmington Bank of Wilmington & Brandywine $5 Proof
Haxby DE-85 UNL. The central vignette, titled Farmer and Mechanics, is seen on several obsolete bank notes. Red "FIVE" protector seen below the vignette. An ex: ABNCo sheet sold for well over $4000 a half dozen years ago. Less than a year ago we saw another $5 proof, grading PCGS Choice New 63 (no PPQ), sell for $1000. This note is head and shoulders above that note or any others. A rare Proof.
Grade: PCGS Gem New 66 PPQ
Lot #20115 - Obsolete Notes & Miscellaneous Items > District of Columbia - ($ 600.00 - $ 1,200.00)
Georgetown American Exchange Bank $2
Haxby DC-55 G8a. October 31, 1855. A scarce bank to begin with but scarcer still without the denomination protector at bottom. Oval back stamp shows "Bought by Z. Pierson & Co...." An excellent DC obsolete and in great grade.
Grade: PCGS VF 25
Lot #20116 - Obsolete Notes & Miscellaneous Items > Florida - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
Jacksonville Bank of St. Johns $10

PMG notes a closed pinhole. The $5 notes on this bank are pretty common; the $10 notes are anything but common.
Grade: PMG VF 20
Lot #20117 - Obsolete Notes & Miscellaneous Items > Florida - ($ 1,500.00 - $ 3,000.00)
Jacksonville Confederate Packing House 5¢
Benice 27. Freeman 35. January 1, 1862. Signed by J. Remington in black ink and dated in red ink. Payable at the Bank of St. John's. A very popular title "Confederate Packing House." A great note with Florida collectors or Obsolete collectors in general who appreciate great items. The Newman note graded PCGS Apparent Fine 15, with piece replaced and redrawn, and it still sold for $700. The present offering is easily the nicest example we have seen.
Grade: PCGS VF 25

Grade: VF +
Lot #20122 - Obsolete Notes & Miscellaneous Items > Georgia - ($ 1,250.00 - $ 2,500.00)
Thomasville Cotton Planters Bank of Georgia $10
Haxby GA-340 G16. April 3, 1862. Probably the nicest looking example we have seen from this very desirable issue. Most of the notes that we encounter have lots of problems, are lower grade and just do not look very pretty. There are a couple of easily removable glue remnants on the upper back corners. Fully framed, bright and as fresh looking as the day it was printed. This $10 denomination is far scarcer than the lower denomination notes that are often seen. A great note in superior grade.

These gentlemen, William Hepburn Russell, Alexander Majors and William Waddell, proposed a stage line from Leavenworth to Denver. Portland Canal Bank $1
Haxby ME-430 G16c. SENC. April 1, 1862. This bank eventually became the Canal National Bank of Portland, charter number 941. An interesting design with evocative vignettes, larger red "ONE" protector at upper right, and a smoky locomotive seen at back center. We have only seen one other example for sale in the past several years. That was a low grade VG note that topped the $500 mark a couple of years ago. This note is quarter folded and as pretty as we can imagine any surviving examples on this bank would be.

Clear Spring Clear Spring Corporation Certificate 12 1/2¢
October 20, 1839. An incredibly rare piece of obsolete currency and the only example of its kind that we have seen. It has a coveted odd denomination and is signed. There are larger tape repaired tears but when a note is potentially unique it really matters not at all. A great Maryland obsolete.

(North Capitan) Southwestern Mercantile Co. 10¢
Undated (circa 1890s). PCGS notes splits and tears. Hugely margined and reasonably intact when one considers its rarity. If this note played Monopoly it would have no worries about winning the $10 second prize beauty contest card. That is of little matter due to the fact that this is the only one we can find and it is on New Mexico. The only other Southwestern Mercantile note we can find was on Jarilla, New Mexico. It was only a little better and it sold for $1,495 a decade ago.

Brooklyn City Bank of Brooklyn $20 Proof
Haxby NY-320 G12. India paper proof mounted on card stock. Small tear. Note unaffected by issues on card stock (there is an impression of a Canal Bank note on the back card stock). A rare Brooklyn bank with few proofs known. In 1865 it became the National City Bank of Brooklyn, charter #1543. The only couple other examples we have seen were $1 and $2 proofs. The Newman $2 proof graded PCGS Choice New 63 and easily sailed past the $2,000 figure. This $20 is simply rare and really very desirable.

Lyons Bank 5¢-10¢-25¢-50¢ Partial Sheet of Twelve Notes
July 15, 1862. Partial Remainder sheet. We believe a complete sheet to be sixteen notes but are not completely certain. We do know that these rarely are available in the marketplace. The only couple of recent auction results we can find are VF examples that have sold for around $75 each. This partial sheet shows four of each denomination. A great item and one that should be highly sought after.

November 7, 1814. PCGS states that this wide format note has been severed and repaired. The Newman cataloger writes "This note seems likely to have been issued from the town of Milton in Ulster County, New York." Presumed to be unique since there does not appear to be any other record of another. This first sold for $470 in May 2016 but that seems quite reasonable in light of its rarity, time period and location.

Lot #20180 - Obsolete Notes & Miscellaneous Items > New York - ($ 900.00 - $ 1,800.00)
Otisco Hamilton & Skaneateles Turnpike Co. 87-1/2¢ Huge Gutter Fold Error
Harris 10. December 15, 1815. Signed and issued. PMG notes previously mounted. A giant gutter fold error bisects the central denomination marker. Not a scarce issue but a really scarce and cool odd denomination. The only other one we have seen was the Harris collection note, which graded VF and sold for around $600 in 2003. This note, considering its grade and gutter fold error, should make a strong case for a four-figure price realization.
Grade: PMG VF 20

Sag Harbor W. & G.H. Cooper 5¢-10¢-15¢-25¢-50¢ Remainder Sheet
Harris UNL. November 25, 1862. Edge tears and damage noted by PCGS. A superb Civil War era sheet and a rare one at that. Individual examples are rarely seen and they tend to sell for hundreds when they do become available. Sag Harbor is a village located in Suffolk County, Long Island, in the towns of East Hampton and Southampton. A charming location and one that should be visited by anyone with so much as a shred of civility. A great Long Island piece.

In the mid-1850s the Vice President took over the signatory duties and the plate was altered to reflect this fact. The engraved "Vice President" seen at lower right is the only such example we can think of on any obsolete currency. A great note and one that should find a happy new home with one fortunate soul.
Grade: PMG VF 30
Lot #20194 - Obsolete Notes & Miscellaneous Items > Ohio - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)

Certain not to win any beauty contests, this raised denomination note is presumed to be unique and therefore it will no doubt find a spot in one lucky bidder's collection following the melee required to obtain it.
Grade: PCGS Good 4
Lot #20195 - Obsolete Notes & Miscellaneous Items > Pennsylvania - ($ 500.00 - $ 1,000.00)

With bold "TWO" protector below vignette of perched eagle. An exceptional grade example of a rare Civil War era counterfeit.

Oil City Oil City Bank $20
Haxby PA-380 G10a. Hoober 290-5. September 15, 1864. The bad news is that PCGS notes splits, tears, damage, tape repairs, stains. A much scarcer high denomination and one that was missing from the Newman collection.

There are some really cool things in here that deserve mention: autograph card of James G. Blaine, Dec. 1881, biblical scene of Saul's conversion, views of Hurst castle, Lake of Killarney, Hyde Park, Gowanus Heights, Thousand Island House, ruins of Fort Ticonderoga, Lake Winnipisseogee, Lake George, Village of Sing Sing, Shrine of the Nativity in Bethlehem, etc. Possibly the most interesting item found within is a meeting scene done by his brother John H. Casilear, who died in 1848 at the age of 24. George Casilear has written a nice biography of his brother in the right margin next to it.
Lot #20240 - Books > Currency - ($ 4,000.00 - $ 8,000.00)
U.S. Treasury Department Specimens - Bureau of Engraving & Printing
An original and intact vignette book. Blank front cover. The spine is titled "U.S. Treasury Department - Specimens." The title page inside states "U.S. Treasury Department, Specimens. Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Washington. Geo. B. McCartee. Geo. W. Casilear." There is a red treasury seal included with a host of flourishes fluttering about. George B. McCartee was Chief of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing from 1869 to 1876 so this tome must date to that time period. The entire album contains approximately 130 impressions, many of which are portraits, allegorical vignettes, etc. Each specimen is printed on India paper and mounted to thicker cardstock. Thin leaf paper is seen between the gold-leafed pages. Many of the impressions are from engravings found on Federal currency. A really high quality vignette book that should prove our estimate laughable. If you have paid attention to auction prices in recent years, individual vignette impressions sell for quite a bit of money.
Lot #20241 - Panic Scrip - ($ 500.00 - $ 800.00)
OK500-1 1 Dollar 16.12.1907
Black on light tan paper; back orange. Uncancelled. Four supporting banks listed at lower left. Two hand signatures at right. This denomination was not known to Shafer in 2013 when he wrote the Panic Scrip book; one of two now reported.
Grade: F/VF    Bank Name: Bartlesville, Oklahoma Clearing House Association
Lot #20242 - Fractional Currency - ($ 800.00 - $ 1,600.00)
Fr. 1226 3¢ Third Issue Inverted Back Error
A mere half dozen are known of this better inverted back fractional. This same note first sold over 20 years ago as part of Milt's collection for $715 and then again in 2005 for about $1,500 as part of Tom O'Mara's collection. A very desirable piece for the fractional specialist.
Grade: PCGS XF 40
Lot #20243 - Fractional Currency - ($ 2,500.00 - $ 5,000.00)
Fr. 1227 3¢ Third Issue Partial Sheet of Fifteen Notes
Light background 3¢ note complete sheets are certainly available enough, but the same cannot be said for their dark background relatives. The only complete sheet of 25 notes that we saw sell in recent years was an XF 45 that topped the $7000 mark in 2014. This larger partial sheet of 15 notes should sell for a healthy sum once the hammer falls.
Grade: PCGS Abt. New 55
Lot #20244 - Fractional Currency - ($ 700.00 - $ 1,400.00)
Fr. 1230 5¢ First Issue Block of Four Notes
Top Pop at PCGS. The wide sheet selvage at left and top indicates that this block came from the upper left portion of the sheet. A superior block of four notes that we find here at an otherwise unattainable grade level. A complete sheet in gem condition would render a price realized in the mid-thousands.
Grade: PCGS Gem New 65 PPQ
Lot #20245 - Fractional Currency - ($ 800.00 - $ 1,600.00)
Fr. 1230 5¢ First Issue Complete Uncut Sheet
A very pretty uncut sheet of First Issue fractional currency that could have easily earned a spot at the next grade level. The colors are strong and the back design printing is particularly bold. Most of the folds are between the notes.
Grade: PCGS VF 35
Lot #20246 - Fractional Currency - ($ 1,500.00 - $ 3,000.00)
Fr. 1232 5¢ Second Issue Complete Uncut Sheet
Top Pop at PCGS. A grade quality uncut Second Issue sheet that is somewhat surprisingly difficult to locate in AU or CU grade. A solid four-figure item for certain.
Grade: PCGS Abt. New 55
Lot #20247 - Fractional Currency - ($ 700.00 - $ 1,400.00)
Fr. 1232 5¢ Second Issue Nearly Complete Uncut Sheet
Large block of 16 notes. Folds are found primarily between the notes as this large multiple was folded in such a way. Only a strip of four notes away from being a complete sheet.
Grade: XF
Lot #20248 - Fractional Currency - ($ 1,250.00 - $ 2,500.00)
Fr. 1234 5¢ Second Issue
A screaming gem example of a number that is rarely found in this state of preservation. PCGS has graded a total of 3 at this level and a single note at the 66PPQ grade level. A stunning note worth in the upper hundreds of dollars on its own merits. What makes this note a bit of an enigma is the "S" surcharge on the back. A couple of the hobby's most advanced fractional specialists have weighed in about whether they believe the "S" surcharge is inverted with differing opinions. It looks like it's certainly possible but we don't want to weigh in with an opinion.........we will let the bidders decide. The reason that this is so important is that if it is an inverted "S" then it would be a unique or nearly unique error note.
Grade: PCGS Gem New 65 PPQ
Lot #20249 - Fractional Currency - ($ 700.00 - $ 1,400.00)
Fr. 1234 5¢ Second Issue Block of Six Notes
Top Pop at both services. A rare fractional multiple. Both services have graded only a couple of complete sheets and this block of six notes. Really rare no matter how you slice it. Friedberg 1232 sheets are common, but this number with "S" and "18-63" surcharges is anything but common.
Grade: PCGS Abt. New 55
Lot #20250 - Fractional Currency - ($ 700.00 - $ 1,400.00)
Fr. 1239 5¢ Third Issue
In lower grades this "a" on face variety doesn't have such a price differential compared to its Fr. 1238 cousin, but at this grade level it certainly does. PCGS has graded four at this level and three at the 67PPQ level.
Grade: PCGS Gem New 66 PPQ
Lot #20251 - Fractional Currency - ($ 300.00 - $ 600.00)
Fr. 1240 10¢ First Issue Perforated Edges, With Monogram
An excellent example of the perforated type.
Grade: PMG Ch. UNC 64
Lot #20252 - Fractional Currency - ($ 600.00 - $ 1,200.00)
Fr. 1242 10¢ First Issue Block of Four Notes
Top Pop at PCGS. A wide bottom selvage is seen on this block of four First Issue 10¢ notes. The paper is as fresh and bright as one would expect. This is the only uncirculated non-sheet multiple that PCGS has encountered.
Grade: PCGS Very Ch. New 64 PPQ
Lot #20253 - Fractional Currency - ($ 1,750.00 - $ 3,250.00)
Fr. 1242 10¢ First Issue Complete Uncut Sheet
A pristine First Issue complete uncut sheet that shows only light handling. A typical example in a nice AU grade tends to settle around the $2000 mark. We see no good reason why the present offering won't perform in like manner.
Grade: PMG Ch. Abt. UNC 55 EPQ
Lot #20254 - Fractional Currency - ($ 300.00 - $ 600.00)
Fr. 1243 10¢ First Issue Straight Edges, Without Monogram
Very scarce this nice.
Grade: PMG Ch. UNC 64
Lot #20255 - Fractional Currency - ($ 1,000.00 - $ 2,000.00)
Fr. 1243 10¢ First Issue Horizontal Strip of Five Notes
Top Pop at PCGS. A rare straight edge, no monogram strip of five notes that is really quite rare. PCGS has only graded one other Fr. 1243 multiple, and that was a block of eight that was recently offered at the Central States sale. A truly special fractional multiple that should see spirited bidding in order to obtain it.
Grade: PCGS Abt. New 55 PPQ
Lot #20256 - Fractional Currency - ($ 450.00 - $ 850.00)
Fr. 1244SP 10¢ Wide Margin Face Second Issue
A gorgeous wide margin face specimen that is printed on bright white paper, with richly contrasted design at center. A sleeper note at the gem grade level.
Grade: PCGS Gem New 66
Lot #20257 - Fractional Currency - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
Fr. 1245 10¢ Second Issue Vertical Strip of Four Notes
A surprisingly scarce fractional multiple and seen in excellent grade. The first time this strip of four notes was offered, it realized over $400 back in 2011.
Grade: PMG UNC 62
Lot #20258 - Fractional Currency - ($ 500.00 - $ 1,000.00)
Fr. 1245 10¢ Second Issue Inverted Back Surcharges
Although somewhat more available as far as inverts are concerned, this piece is anything but common. The bronzing on the back is inverted but the design remains properly aligned. This ex: O'Mara note topped the $400 mark in 2005.
Grade: PCGS Ch. Abt. New 55
Lot #20259 - Fractional Currency - ($ 600.00 - $ 1,200.00)
Fr. 1246 10¢ Second Issue Uncut Block of Ten Notes
Sometimes seen as uncut pairs or small strips of three or four notes, but rarely ever offered as complete sheets or large blocks such as this one. PCGS notes small splits but they affect nothing.
Grade: PCGS XF 40
Lot #20260 - Fractional Currency - ($ 600.00 - $ 1,200.00)
Fr. 1251 10¢ Third Issue
Only a little better centering would be required for the superb gem grade to have been assigned by PMG. High grade fractional type notes are always in demand from the cognoscenti of the fractional currency hobby.
Grade: PMG Gem UNC 66 EPQ
Lot #20261 - Fractional Currency - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)

A wonderfully margined and superbly centered Fourth Issue fractional note.
Grade: PMG Gem UNC 66 EPQ
Lot #20262 - Fractional Currency - ($ 1,250.00 - $ 2,500.00)
Fr. 1267 15¢ Back Proof Fourth Issue
Milton 4S15R.1a. A lovely and very scarce back India paper proof of the Fourth Issue Fr. 1267-1271 type. The holder notes this traces all the way back to a Chapman Brothers sale, with the back label denoting it was formerly part of both the Wilcox and Friedman collections. This is where PMG's attention to detail ends; they must have been so preoccupied with provenances that they forgot to put the note right-side up in the holder. No matter, this is still a rare esoteric fractional proof that should receive lots of attention from bidders.
Grade: PMG UNC 62
Lot #20263 - Fractional Currency - ($ 600.00 - $ 1,200.00)
Fr. 1275SP 15¢ Wide Margin Face Third Issue
A much scarcer Grant-Sherman specimen hand signed by both Allison and Spinner. The specimens with Colby and Spinner autographs are the far more available types. The present example looks like a screaming gem until candling the note produces a broad diagonal upper fold. Fully wide and perfectly centered wide margin fractional specimens are a dying breed, with so many having been trimmed down over the years, particularly in the past dozen or so years (read between the lines). A superior example that is as pretty as any gem we can recall having seen.
Grade: PCGS Ch. Abt. New 58
Lot #20264 - Fractional Currency - ($ 600.00 - $ 1,200.00)
Fr. 1281 25¢ First Issue Block of Six Notes
Not an easy multiple to find, especially at this grade level. One of the largest non-sheet multiples we have seen. Wide left selvage shows sheet plate number "2." This same block sold a dozen years ago for $690 and should be worth much more today.
Grade: PCGS Abt. New 55
Lot #20265 - Fractional Currency - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
Fr. 1281 25¢ First Issue Block of Six Notes
A second block that is not up to par with the previous one in terms of condition, but which carries itself quite well for the assigned grade.
Grade: VF/XF
Lot #20266 - Fractional Currency - ($ 300.00 - $ 600.00)
Fr. 1282 25¢ First Issue Straight Edges, Without Monogram
A scarce note with no monogram.
Grade: PMG Ch. UNC 63 EPQ
Lot #20267 - Fractional Currency - ($ 600.00 - $ 1,200.00)
Fr. 1283 25¢ Experimental Second Issue
Milton 2E25F.3k. Unique at the time Milt published his encyclopedia but with a couple others having shown up in the intervening years. The paper has a waxy look to it, which is part of the definition of this number, but inside the holder one cannot really be certain. Printed on much more yellowish paper than is typically seen.
Grade: PMG Ch. UNC 64
Lot #20268 - Fractional Currency - ($ 700.00 - $ 1,400.00)
Fr. 1284 25¢ Second Issue Vertical Strip of Four Notes
There is rare, and then there is rare. This block of four notes falls into the latter category (or maybe it's the former category). This is the only example we can recall having seen of this scarcer Fr. 1284 multiple. Hesitation in bidding can lead to a lifetime of regret; do not allow yourself to fall victim to your fears.
Grade: PMG Abt. UNC 55
Lot #20269 - Fractional Currency - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
Fr. 1286 25¢ Second Issue Vertical Strip of Four Notes
Yet another offering of a rare fractional multiple. PMG has spotted a small piece missing in the top note's broad left margin. We have seen scant few of these over the years as they are really that scarce.
Grade: PMG Abt. UNC 50
Lot #20270 - Fractional Currency - ($ 2,500.00 - $ 5,000.00)
Fr. 1288 25¢ Third Issue Block of Eight Notes
One of only a couple we have seen and the finer of the two. This "2" and "18-63" variety is quite scarce, particularly so in high grade. A light center fold is seen between the two columns of notes and, if cut up, this sheet no doubt would produce several gems and superb gems. When one considers that individual notes at those grade levels sell for upper three figure or even four figure prices, there is a lot of value here.
Grade: PCGS Ch. Abt. New 58 PPQ
Lot #20271 - Fractional Currency - ($ 900.00 - $ 1,800.00)
Fr. 1291SP 25¢ Wide Margin Pair Third Issue
A lovely Fessenden wide margin pair with red back. Bright, well centered and fully wide. Well deserving of the Exceptional Paper Quality designation. The face is tied for Top Pop at PMG and the red back has only a single example better at PMG. A great pair destined for a great collection.
Grade: PMG Gem UNC 66 EPQ
Lot #20272 - Fractional Currency - ($ 600.00 - $ 1,200.00)
Fr. 1295 25¢ Third Issue Inverted Back Surcharge
Considerably scarcer than the Fr. 1294 inverts, this variety with the "a" on face has few examples known. The back design is aligned in its normal position but the bronze denomination counter is inverted.
Grade: PCGS Fine 12
Lot #20273 - Fractional Currency - ($ 3,000.00 - $ 6,000.00)
Fr. 1300 25¢ Third Issue
These solid surcharge, fiber paper Fessenden notes were particularly hard and brittle, picking up cracks and tears rather easily. For whatever reason, the notes with the "a" position indicator were especially susceptible to these issues. CU examples are essentially nonexistent with even AU pieces extremely tough to obtain. This note is really bright and well margined compared to most that we come across, with the mere mention of some back hinge remnants placing it well above the fray of damaged examples.
Grade: PCGS Abt. New 50
Lot #20274 - Fractional Currency - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
Fr. 1310 50¢ First Issue
Likely worth a couple hundred dollars as a ho-hum perforated fractional at this grade level. Seen here with superior ink colors, sharp perforations and a huge right selvage. Through the holder you would swear that this note was a near gem quality piece.
Grade: PCGS Ch. Abt. New 58
Lot #20275 - Fractional Currency - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
Fr. 1311 50¢ First Issue Perforated Edges, Without Monogram
A nice example with perforated edges.

Lot #20276 - Fractional Currency - ($ 600.00 - $ 1,200.00)
Fr. 1314 50¢ Red Back Experimental Second Issue
Milton 2E50R.3a. An utterly superb gem example of this vibrant red back experimental. Originally graded Superb Gem New by Heritage and formerly from the O'Mara and Hales collections. This piece first sold in 2005 for $632.50.
Grade: PMG Gem UNC 65 EPQ
Lot #20277 - Fractional Currency - ($ 2,000.00 - $ 4,000.00)
Fr. 1317 50¢ Second Issue Block of Eight Notes
As a general rule, larger denomination Fractional multiples are higher up on the rarity scale than are lower denomination notes. Second Issue 50¢ notes are no exception. We rarely see pairs, with a discolored AU 58 pair selling for $540 earlier this year. This block of eight notes is the only example of this variety that is even remotely this large in size. PCGS does note some minor mounting remnants but they are truly of no consequence. This is likely the only opportunity for one lucky collector to add this rare item to his holdings. After the hammer falls it will likely be years before it is seen again.
Grade: PCGS Abt. New 50
Lot #20278 - Fractional Currency - ($ 600.00 - $ 1,200.00)
Fr. 1321 50¢ Second Issue
A much scarcer fiber paper fractional, with this number bearing "R-2" and "18-63" surcharges. Really quite scarce at the CU grade level. Were it not for a tight right margin, this note would have achieved a much better grade. The surcharges are crystal clear and the paper is fresh. Early this year we noticed a nice AU hone in on the $500 mark.
Grade: PMG UNC 62 EPQ
Lot #20279 - Fractional Currency - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
Fr. 1329 50¢ Third Issue
A wonderfully margined and deeply embossed example of this better Allison-Spinner hand-signed fractional.
Grade: PCGS Ch. Abt. New 58
Lot #20280 - Fractional Currency - ($ 500.00 - $ 750.00)
Fr. 1335 50¢ Third Issue
A beautifully printed green back Spinner, with plate number 12 noticed in the lower left corner.
Grade: PCGS Ch. New 63 PPQ
Lot #20281 - Fractional Currency - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
Fr. 1335 50¢ Third Issue
Huge margins, great centering, bright bronzing, and perfect paper surfaces make this one heck of an AU 58 note. This subtype with surcharges on back is very underappreciated by the current generation of collectors.
Grade: PCGS Abt. New 58
Lot #20282 - Fractional Currency - ($ 2,500.00 - $ 5,000.00)
Fr. 1336 50¢ Third Issue
A lovely example of this much better "1" and "a" Spinner green back with surcharges on back. Only one example was printed per sheet and it occupied the upper left corner. Essentially Top Pop at PCGS, although there are a pair of AU 58PPQ notes listed, but without any CU notes given. A tough fractional note in a pristine state and one that should be highly coveted by the collecting community.
Grade: PCGS Abt. New 58
Lot #20283 - Fractional Currency - ($ 600.00 - $ 1,200.00)

Grade: PCGS VF 30
Lot #20284 - Fractional Currency - ($ 300.00 - $ 600.00)
Fr. 1338 50¢ Third Issue Colby-Spinner, Letter 'a' on Front

Lot #20285 - Fractional Currency - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
Fr. 1340 50¢ Third Issue
Type II reverse. As far as "1" and "a" Third Issue notes go, this is certainly not the scarcest but is still very desirable. An incredibly well margined piece that wields the visual impact of a far superior note.
Grade: PCGS Abt. New 53
Lot #20286 - Fractional Currency - ($ 4,000.00 - $ 8,000.00)
Fr. 1344 50¢ Third Issue
One of the prettiest examples we have ever seen of this better red back "1" and "a" Justice note. It has full and complete margins on all sides and, when viewed through the plastic holder, gives every indication of being a hulking gem. Only two notes have been given a better grade at PCGS, with the assigned 64 PPQ grade unattainable by virtually all other known examples. The last time we saw a note in this exact grade sell at auction was in September 2015, a time when the currency market was fading fast and prices were sinking like a stone. On that day the PCGS 64 PPQ note topped the $3000 figure, a price that should be left in the dust once the hammer falls this evening.
Grade: PCGS Very Ch. New 64 PPQ
Lot #20287 - Fractional Currency - ($ 1,500.00 - $ 3,000.00)

Grade: PCGS Abt. New 50
Lot #20288 - Fractional Currency - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
Fr. 1346 50¢ Third Issue
A handsome example of this better red back Justice note that has the "a" position indicator on the face. A trio of large margins, bright bronze and vivid inks add a great deal to the eye appeal of this piece. In our last sale, we sold an AU Fr. 1345 for close to $450.
Grade: PMG Abt. UNC 55 EPQ
Lot #20289 - Fractional Currency - ($ 500.00 - $ 1,000.00)
Fr. 1350 50¢ Third Issue
A much better red back Justice number with "a" position indicator on the face. Blessed with a trio of large margins. Far more valuable at this grade level than the typical AU Justice notes.
Grade: PMG Abt. UNC 58 EPQ
Lot #20290 - Fractional Currency - ($ 450.00 - $ 850.00)
Fr. 1350 50¢ Third Issue
An exceptionally well margined example of this much better Friedberg number with "1" on face. A real sleeper at this grade level.
Grade: PMG Ch. Abt. UNC 58
Lot #20291 - Fractional Currency - ($ 700.00 - $ 1,400.00)
Fr. 1357 50¢ Third Issue
A better grade Colby and Spinner hand-signed note printed on fiber paper. PMG has commented Faded Surcharges. While this is certainly true that the two right surcharges are somewhat faded (although certainly legible) it is hardly an issue about which one should be troubled (and not commented on). In the pantheon of grading comments that have accumulated over the past dozen or so years, this example rises to the level of being a vacuous comment and one that represents a general slowness of thought.
Grade: PMG Abt. UNC 55
Lot #20292 - Fractional Currency - ($ 600.00 - $ 900.00)
Fr. 1358 50¢ Third Issue
A lovely green back Justice just missing a bit more left margin to qualify for Gem.
Grade: PCGS Very Ch. New 64
Lot #20293 - Fractional Currency - ($ 700.00 - $ 1,400.00)
Fr. 1359 50¢ Third Issue
A key "1" and "a" Justice note that has four full margins clear of the frame lines. A vast majority of notes of this variety have at least one trimmed margin.
Grade: PCGS XF 45
Lot #20294 - Fractional Currency - ($ 750.00 - $ 1,500.00)
Fr. 1361 50¢ Third Issue
A sleeper at this grade level as nice CU notes are pretty darn scarce and gems are just rare. The grading services have combined to grade a single example in gem grade. This "1" on face number is not to be overlooked because it may be quite a while before another comes along.
Grade: PMG Ch. UNC 64 EPQ
Lot #20295 - Fractional Currency - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
Fr. 1361 50¢ Third Issue
A much better green back Justice number with "a" position indicator on the face. Fully margined and with printing depth that jumps out at you. In recent years most nice AU examples have sold for around $375 (this note included).
Grade: PCGS Abt. New 58
Lot #20296 - Fractional Currency - ($ 4,000.00 - $ 8,000.00)
Fr. 1367 50¢ Third Issue
Essentially tied for Top Pop at PCGS with only a single 55PPQ note receiving a better overall grade. Neither grading service has seen any that have been deemed uncirculated. This "1" and "a" Justice note with widely spaced surcharges on back is easily in the top 10 for fractional currency varieties. In this lofty grade it should be considered a trophy note and will no doubt be actively pursued by fractional currency specialists. The only other somewhat comparably graded example we can find was a PCGS XF 45 PPQ that topped the $3000 mark in the crappy late 2015 market. Not much doubt remains as to just how much this piece will sell for.......it should be a considerable amount.
Grade: PCGS Ch. Abt. New 55
Lot #20297 - Fractional Currency - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
Fr. 1368 50¢ Third Issue
A much better Friedberg number with "1" position indicator and widely spaced surcharges. Nice CU notes are legitimately scarce so a satisfying AU will usually do the trick.
Grade: PCGS Abt. New 50
Lot #20298 - Fractional Currency - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
Fr. 1368 50¢ Partial Face to Back Offset Error Third Issue
A very cool fractional currency error on a better Fr. number. PCGS has noted a Partial Face to Back Offset. The offset is seen at the lower right of the note's reverse.
Grade: PCGS XF 40
Lot #20299 - Fractional Currency - ($ 1,000.00 - $ 2,000.00)

A far above average Lincoln note, both in terms of margin size and centering as well as depth of printing. A pristine piece that should prove once again why this is the most popular of all fractional types.
Grade: PCGS Very Ch. New 64 PPQ
Lot #20300 - Fractional Currency - ($ 500.00 - $ 1,000.00)

Pink Fractional Currency Shield
No major IPMS sale would be complete without a Fractional Currency shield. The gray shields number in the low to mid hundreds and are by far the most available. The green shields are the scarcest with about a dozen known and the pink shields are also quite scarce with a figure of around two dozen. Housed, as they all are, in a contemporary frame that was not part of the BEP issue. The shield is surrounded by black matting, which only enhances the bold pink color of the shield itself. All four of the hand-signed Colby-Spinner notes are seen, which includes the Fr. 1273SP Grant-Sherman specimen that is only found on green and pink shields, but not the gray shields. Fractional Currency shields are easily the most important and widely sought after item by both fractional and non-fractional collectors, due to their status essentially as a work of art that can be displayed proudly by the owner. Virtually always a five-figure price is required to obtain such an elusive treasure. Cut out from border as strong a pink color as I've ever seen.
Grade: XF/AU
Lot #20305 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 4,000.00 - $ 8,000.00)
Series 461 $5 Replacement 9/16/46 - 3/10/47
Top Pop at both services and the only CU example known to either PMG or PCGS. A stunning note with bright paper, wide margins and great color. We are not sure what it would have taken to have earned a gem grade, but this note clearly seems to have deserved that consideration. After tonight, only one collector will boast of owning the only CU $5 replacement from this first MPC series.
Grade: PCGS Very Ch. New 64
Lot #20306 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
Series 471 10¢ Replacement 3/10/47 - 3/22/48
One of the highest grade replacements we have seen in quite some time.
Grade: PMG XF 40
Lot #20307 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 2,500.00 - $ 5,000.00)
Series 471 25¢ Replacement 3/10/47 - 3/22/48
Tied for Top Pop at both services. Only two others have achieved a comparable grade at both services and those are, in fact, the only three CU examples known. A great note that should realize a great price.
Grade: PCGS Gem New 66 PPQ
Lot #20308 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 4,000.00 - $ 8,000.00)
Series 471 50¢ Replacement 3/10/47 - 3/22/48
Top Pop at both grading services. An absolutely incredible example of this rare early replacement that has no equals with virtually no peers. Huge margins, great centering and bold colors validate the assigned third party grade. The only other example we have seen sell at auction that even remotely approaches this one was a PMG AU 55 EPQ that realized $8625 back in 2009.
Grade: PCGS Gem New 66 PPQ
Lot #20309 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 1,250.00 - $ 2,500.00)
Series 472 5¢ Replacement 3/22/48 - 6/20/51
Top Pop at PMG with a single example deemed its equal over at PCGS. A stellar example that should please the fussiest of collectors.
Grade: PMG Gem UNC 66 EPQ
Lot #20310 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 1,250.00 - $ 1,750.00)
Series 472 $10 3/22/48 -6/20/51 Replacement
A lovely replacement MPC Series 472 10¢ #C00200026 and Ch. UNC 64. Beautiful quality and rarity.
Grade: PMG Ch. UNC 64
Lot #20311 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
Series 521 10¢ 5/25/54 - 5/27/58 Turned Digit Error
Turned Digit in Serial Number, also referred to as a "Gas pump error" for those of us who are actually old enough to remember what that means (no Millennial discussions please). Pretty much all of these types of errors that we see are on small size notes, and primarily FRNs. This is a real pronounced stuck digit that should attract the notice of multiple bidders.
Grade: PCGS Abt. New 53 PPQ
Lot #20312 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 1,750.00 - $ 3,250.00)
Series 692 $10 10/7/70-3/15/73
A hugely margined and perfectly centered example of this later issue MPC that is as bright and fresh as the day it was printed. While even Gem 65 notes appear with some regularity, nice Gem 66 or better notes are really scarce. Any gem easily clears the thousand dollar threshold, a figure easily obtainable by this virtually superb note.
