Other than serial numbers #1 and #2, we think serial number #20 is quite desirable. PMG terms this "Ch. UNC 63" and matched with the English version #A000020 creates a stunning pair to significantly elevate your entire collection. A word of caution: Charlton, the basis on which some collectors base their buying decisions, may be somewhat conservative in estimating what these low serial numbered notes bring. This is especially true for French issues. Consider stretching for this note, as putting together a pair like this is something you will not regret.

The astute collector will stretch to obtain this incredibly rare low serial numbered French issue note.

11a 1 Somali 1950
Unissued 1 Somalo (Somali) of the 1950 series. This emission was made for the area under Italian trusteeship given it by the United Nations in 1949. A new currency, the Somalo, was authorized by an official ordinance of 16 May 1950. Coins and notes were prepared and all were issued except this lowest denomination in paper. The face text includes the error 1 Somali designation while the back expresses the value as 1 Somalo, the correct singular form. Most likely because of this discrepancy, the note was never issued; according to records, only 225 pieces were outstanding. They were included with presentation sets, the most likely source of any on the market today. This lowest denomination is the key to the series. PMG terms this "Superb Gem UNC 67 EPQ"; by itself, the best example of seven on the population report.
