During this period, the Netherlands were occupied by the French. French soldiers were paid in Assignats and Dutch were forced to accept them. The Dutch issued "Recepisse" to be used instead and so they could restrict the number. Recepisses were issued by the city government where a French army was located. This denomination was equal to 10 French Sous; among the first paper money of the Netherlands. Uniface; printed on lined, watermarked paper.
