Lot #78675 - Large Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 16,000.00 - $ 20,000.00)
Fr. 312 $20 1880
This is a pleasing, problem free Stephen Decatur small red seal $20 Silver Certificate. These remain rare in every sense of the word. There are no UNCs reported, all three are AU 50 notes which makes me want to see what they see amiss when they look like this example. There are just 35 examples recorded and this type is much rarer than its sister, the large brown seal. An excellent value opening at $10,000. This note is problem free and totally original. Enjoy bidding!
Grade: PMG VF 25

Lot #78692 - Large Size Type Notes > Gold Certificates - ($ 1,000.00 - $ 2,000.00)
Fr. 1173a $10 1922
This note, from the Fort Knox Collection, shows the strength of color, margins and originality. A long faint bend on this 1907 type with the small serial number; this example is pristine. The PCGS holder was signed by Edmund C. Moy, 38th Director of the Mint. These notes had slight handling but they remain 100% original with brilliant shades of black and gold.
Grade: PCGS Abt. New 53 PPQ

Grade: PMG VF 30
Lot #78696 - Large Size Type Notes > Gold Certificates - ($ 14,000.00 - $ 18,000.00)
Fr. 1216 $500 1882 Department Series
The Fr. 1216 is the rarest in shear terms of number of all small red seal $500 Gold Certificates, which I say includes: Fr. 1216 28 reported; 1216a 34 reported; 1216b 54 reported; 1217 63 reported. This is also the earliest issue with the Lyons-Roberts signature combination and the Department Series. The note is well circulated but without repair or restoration. There are numerous pinholes, all intact, and teller handling from a lifetime of being recounted by bankers and bank examiners. The finest known is call a '50' and second is a '40'. Twelve grade lower, four are similar and twelve are better. The high mark by price is the AU 50 at $93,000, sold last August. A cool note for a collector. This note brought $11,400 last year. PMG notes: pinholes.
Grade: PMG Ch. Fine 15
Lot #78697 - National Bank Notes > Colorado - ($ 5,000.00 - $ 8,000.00)
Fr. 633 $10 1902ND
Delta, First NB, W5467
Notes like this are such a joy to catalog. This bank note is dated May 22, 1920 and there are 25 large notes recorded. There is another UNC from the same sheet but it clearly lacks margins for its grade. This note is beautifully signed with bold stamped signatures of A.S. Stackham and Carey B. Adams, along with pristine paper quality and beauty. I was told the owner held onto this as the best. PMG notes: staple holes.
Grade: PMG Ch. UNC 63    Bank Name: Delta, First NB, W5467
Lot #78698 - National Bank Notes > Colorado - ($ 3,000.00 - $ 5,000.00)
Fr. 626 $10 1902ND
Delta, NB, W8675
High quality large size Colorado notes remain few and far between, and this beauty is the finest to be recorded for Track & Price. Absolutely a beauty with stamped signatures of the vice president and cashier; purple and clear. Currently there are 12 large notes reported which includes this lovely, fresh note.
Grade: PMG Ch. UNC 63    Bank Name: Delta, NB, W8675

Fr. 660 $20 1902ND
Fort Collins, First NB, W2622
A beautiful example of this early Colorado banking institution what is fresh and original, although the signatures appear to have been forgotten. Excellent centering and amazing color; likely a '35 EPQ'. There are just 36 large notes recorded and nothing similar has ever been offered.
Grade: VF/XF    Bank Name: Fort Collins, First NB, W2622

Fr. 624 $10 1902ND
Fort Collins, Poudre Valley NB, 7837
A note with amazing beauty and originality, highlighted by bold black stamped signatures and paper quality. You can see the hint of the note above so the bottom margin is not perfect, but still wonderful. We sold an AU in 2012 but I don't recall centering or signatures.
Grade: VF/XF    Bank Name: Fort Collins, Poudre Valley NB, 7837

Fr. 686 $100 1902RS
Chicago, Continental NB, M2894
This note is a new addition to the census that now stands at just 17 $100 Red Seals recorded. The note would be great for a type collector as this bank is the most offered of the type. Bright reds, giant margins and wonderful black signatures against lovely white paper. There has been some minor restoration on edge splits. The overall appearance is everything most would seek. This bank survived the National Bank Note era but failed in the 1986 crisis.

Frankfort, State NB, 4090
Wow! An extraordinary note from the state capital. While the bank has 57 large notes reported, this is as nice as is seen of a five $5 Brown Backs reported. The last similar note we sold realized $3,680 and that was 14 years ago. There are only three national banks chartered, and one remains unreported. Beautiful pen signatures with quality and heavy inking.

Fr. 432 $20 1875
Territory of New Mexico, Santa Fe, Second NB, 2024
Here we have one of the greatest rarities in National Bank Notes or New Mexico. The note last appeared in our February 1997 sale when I was privilege to offer three amazing notes from this early New Mexico Territory charter. The $5 from that sale realized $44,000 in 2013, and changed hands about 7 times in 16 years. Earlier this example brought $4,800 then and who knows where the hammer will fall now. The Spiegelbergs were early merchants in the Santa Fe area and signed the Original Series notes. This note bears the same president's signature of Lehman Spiegelberg, but the cashier's signature was John Watts, who also worked at the First National Bank during his career. This bank only issued First Charters and the $20 was its highest denomination. Two notes have been added to the census since 1997, bringing the total to 12 recorded. In 1997 some of the notes were still part of the Spiegelberg family holdings.
Grade: PMG VF 20    Bank Name: Territory of New Mexico, Santa Fe, Second NB, 2024

A beautiful note from Westchester County with the charter's second title, which has 42 large notes recorded. I doubt any are better than this; a consecutive note was sold as Ch. CU by CAA in 2001 at $2,420. Absolutely a bright, fresh and original example with excellent stamped signatures of Bell and Harris.

The beautiful and rare $20 First Charter is unique and beautiful. The issue was so small as sheets only had a single $20 along with three $10s. This example offers uniqueness, beauty and originality. Current census data shows just 16 examples known. This note could have better margins but those were likely determined by the cashier when the sheets were cut. Bold pen signatures and outstanding originality for this beauty.

Anadarko, First NB, W5905
If graded, I presume it would be VF 20. There were three national banks in this community, known for oil, at least to me. This bank has two Territorials and two other $50s reported with this the second title, both of those are lower grade with problems. No problems with this note other than wear and circulation. On top of that, it's a serial #50 on a $50 from a title with only 306 sheets of $50-50-50-100 printed. The signatures on this note are beautifully penned in black ink.
