There were three printings for this note and, according to the PMG Population Report, this second printing is the most challenging. A lovely example with wide margins and flawless paper. Auction results show that the Guy Araby collection contained a PMG Gem UNC 65 EPQ of the more available First Printing which sold for $1,762.50 in 2015. Tied for Top Pop at both services combined. Everything about this quality of this nickel replacement is astounding. Flawless quality.
Grade: PMG Superb Gem UNC 67 EPQ
Lot #74549 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 175.00 - $ 325.00)
Series 611 5¢ 1/6/64-4/28/69 First Printing Replacement
Not Top Pop but just a point away and visually as similar as one could hope.
Grade: PMG Gem UNC 66 EPQ
Lot #74550 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 300.00 - $ 600.00)
Series 611 10¢ 1/6/64-4/28/69 First Printing Replacement
Tied with one other example as Top Pop at both grading services combined. Boardwalk margins are seen on all sides of this stellar piece. That other PMG 67 EPQ sold for $350 in 2015.
Grade: PMG Superb Gem UNC 67 EPQ
Lot #74551 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 350.00 - $ 650.00)
Series 611 25¢ 1/6/64-4/28/69 First Printing Replacement
But for a couple of nice CU pieces that have recently snuck into the PMG Population Report, VF is about as good as you will find one of these dime replacements. Few earn the coveted EPQ designation.
Grade: PMG VF 20 EPQ
Lot #74552 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 600.00 - $ 1,200.00)
Series 611 $1 1/6/64-4/28/69 First Printing Replacement
An absolutely stunning piece that sits alone atop the Population Reports of both grading services. Wide margins, perfect centering, and pristine paper surfaces all validate the assigned third-party grade. In recent years, we have seen a couple of the Gems sell in the range of $500-$750.
Grade: PMG Superb Gem UNC 67 EPQ
Lot #74553 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 150.00 - $ 300.00)
Series 611 $1 1/6/64-4/28/69 First Printing Replacement
While there are a handful of nice CU replacements for this denomination, it should not deter one from desiring to achieve one's collecting goal. We have many MPC notes in this sale and there are lots of opportunities for collectors to acquire good quality.
Grade: PMG VF 30 EPQ
Lot #74554 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 100.00 - $ 200.00)
Series 611 $5 1/6/64-4/28/69 First Printing
Always a colorful and desirable high denomination MPC.
Grade: PMG VF 30
Lot #74555 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 600.00 - $ 1,200.00)
Series 611 $5 1/6/64-4/28/69 First Printing Replacement
A really scarce note with only a single XF and a single AU better at both services combined. Chambliss states that there are 13 known. A higher denomination MPC replacement that does not appear often.
Grade: PMG Ch. VF 35
Lot #74556 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 750.00 - $ 1,500.00)
Series 611 $10 1/6/64-4/28/69 First Printing Replacement
A very scarce high denomination MPC replacement that is only bested at the grading services by a 55 EPQ and a 58 EPQ. There is a pair of well hidden staple holes at lower left corner. Both Chambliss and Schwan agree that there are roughly 20 pieces known. That PMG AU 55 EPQ sold at auction for $2,350 in 2015.
Grade: PMG Abt. UNC 55
Lot #74557 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 60.00 - $ 120.00)
Series 641 5¢ 8/31/65-10/21/68 First Printing Replacement
A cool serial number is seen on this otherwise nondescript MPC replacement.
Grade: PMG Ch. Fine 15
Lot #74558 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
Series 641 10¢ 8/31/65 - 10/21/68 First Printing Replacement
This is the highest graded example at either service which bears the EPQ/PPQ designation. PMG has graded a "64" and PCGS a "62", neither of which bore that qualifier. A pristine MPC replacement that faces up like a near Gem through the plastic entombment.
Grade: PMG Ch. Abt. UNC 58 EPQ
Lot #74559 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 700.00 - $ 1,400.00)
Series 641 25¢ 8/31/65 - 10/21/68 First Printing Replacement
Top Pop at both grading services. A flawless piece of military scrip that possesses vivid ink colors, boldly printed devices, and which is superbly centered. PMG has graded a 64 EPQ as its next closest competitor. That PMG 64 EPQ recently sold for over $300.
Grade: PMG Superb Gem UNC 67 EPQ
Lot #74560 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 100.00 - $ 200.00)
Series 641 25¢ 8/31/65-10/21/68 First Printing Replacement
A handsome example for the Very Fine grade. This replacement shows darkly contrasted inks and bountiful margins.
Grade: PMG Ch. VF 35
Lot #74561 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 900.00 - $ 1,800.00)
Series 641 50¢ 8/31/65 - 10/21/68 Second Printing Replacement
Top Pop at both grading services combined. This is from the much scarcer Second Printing. The PMG Population Report shows the First Printing has four times as many entries as the Second Printing. There are two PMG Gem 66 EPQ pieces that have sold at auction in recent years, with prices realized of $1,175 and $2,350. There is no good reason to expect something of that magnitude once the hammer falls this evening.
Grade: PMG Superb Gem UNC 67 EPQ
Lot #74562 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 300.00 - $ 600.00)
Series 641 $1 8/31/65 - 10/21/68 Third Printing
Tied for Top Pop at both grading services. All of the high-grade examples of this MPC Ace are from this Third Printing. We find it hard to believe that any other could look better than this one.
Grade: PCGS Superb Gem New 68 PPQ
Lot #74563 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 75.00 - $ 150.00)
Series 641 $1 8/31/65-10/21/68 First Printing Replacement
Areas of light soiling for this original.
Grade: Ch. Fine/VF
Lot #74564 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 600.00 - $ 1,200.00)
Series 641 $10 8/31/65 - 10/21/68 Second Printing Replacement
PMG Population Report shows only a single replacement that grades uncirculated. This is the only uncirculated piece at PCGS. So we can say that this evening's offering is Top Pop at PCGS and also Top Pop at both services for the Second Printing replacements. However you slice it, this is a really scarce replacement and particularly so at this lofty grade level.
Grade: PCGS Ch. New 63 PPQ
Lot #74565 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 80.00 - $ 120.00)
Series 651 $1 4/28/69 - 11/19/73 First Printing
There are definitely high grade examples of this denomination but they could not be much prettier than this one.
Grade: PMG Superb Gem UNC 67 EPQ
Lot #74566 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 175.00 - $ 325.00)
Series 661 5¢ 10/21/68 - 8/11/69 First Printing Replacement
This looks like a note that should be worth about $2 if it was a regular issue piece. Replacements from this abysmally common issue are actually really scarce. The PMG Population Report shows five examples of this denomination, only two of which are better than the present offering.
Grade: PMG VF 25
Lot #74567 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 400.00 - $ 800.00)
Series 661 10¢ 10/21/68-8/11/69 First Printing Replacement
Only a few examples have been graded at this lofty grade level but none better at either service.
Grade: PMG Superb Gem UNC 67 EPQ
Lot #74568 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 60.00 - $ 100.00)
Series 661 25¢ 10/21/68-8/11/69 Second Printing Replacement
Pinholes and soiling at left. Scarce.
Grade: Fine/VF
Lot #74569 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 1,000.00 - $ 2,000.00)
Series 661 50¢ 10/21/68-8/11/69 First Printing Replacement
As common as this series is for regular issue notes, it is just that scarce for replacements. There are perhaps a half-dozen known of this denomination and all but one have been graded VF or less. Past auction results that we can find have shown a PMG VF 25 that realized $3,000 in 2011 and a raw VF that sold for about $3,500 back in 2004.
Grade: PMG VF 20
Lot #74570 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 20.00 - $ 40.00)
Series 661 $1 10/21/68-8/11/69 First Printing Replacement
Various signs of circulation. Sold as is; no returns.
Grade: VG
Lot #74571 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 1,750.00 - $ 3,500.00)
Series 661 $10 10/21/68-8/11/69 First Printing
An example of astounding quality that is tied with one other note at PCGS for Top Pop at both grading services. The margins and centering are perfect, the colors are rich and vibrant, and the eye appeal is of the highest caliber. This note first sold a couple of times back in the weak 2009-2010 market for an average of $2,500. The other 68 PPQ piece sold a number of years ago for $2,200.
Grade: PCGS Superb Gem New 68 PPQ
Lot #74572 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 500.00 - $ 1,000.00)

Lot #74575 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 600.00 - $ 1,200.00)
Series 681 50¢ 8/11/69-10/7/70 First Printing Replacement
A Top Pop note that sits alone on the mountain top at PMG, with a single 68 PPQ being seen at PCGS. The note is without even the slightest distraction and comes in a serial number range from whence most high grade examples hail.
Grade: PMG Superb Gem UNC 68 EPQ
Lot #74576 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 500.00 - $ 1,000.00)
Series 681 $1 8/11/69-10/7/70 First Printing Replacement
Tied for Top Pop at both grading services, and only one other 66 EPQ at PMG. That note sold for $600 a year ago. This is a really tough replacement at such a high grade level and these rarely come along often.
Grade: PMG Gem UNC 66 EPQ
Lot #74577 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 150.00 - $ 300.00)
Series 681 $1 8/11/69 - 10/7/70 First Printing Replacement
A more elusive later MPC replacement with a spot of Minor Rust noted by PMG.
Grade: PMG VF 25
Lot #74578 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 800.00 - $ 1,600.00)
Series 681 $10 8/11/69-10/7/70 First Printing
An exceptional quality Military Payment Certificate from the Vietnam War era that displays evocative military illustrations on both sides. PCGS graded a single 69 PPQ and PMG has not graded any better than 68 EPQ. Even at the 67 PQ grade level these tend to sell for around $500.
Grade: PCGS Superb Gem New 68 PPQ
Lot #74579 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 150.00 - $ 300.00)
Series 692 5¢ 10/7/70 - 3/15/73 First Printing Replacement
A late-issue replacement that is a lot more available at the VF level but not so much as this near CU state. Only three uncirculated pieces seen at PMG.
Grade: PMG Abt. UNC 55
Lot #74580 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 30.00 - $ 60.00)
Series 692 10¢ 10/7/70-3/15/73 First Printing Replacement

Lot #74582 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 125.00 - $ 250.00)
Series 692 50¢ 10/7/70 - 3/15/73 First Printing Replacement
These later issued notes are usually of good paper quality and are very colorful. A good opportunity for collectors to acquire a relatively inexpensive replacement that faces up well.
Grade: PMG Ch. VF 35
Lot #74583 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 100.00 - $ 200.00)
Series 692 $1 10/7/70 - 3/15/73 First Printing
Bright and well centered. Excellent quality for the grade.
Grade: PMG Gem UNC 65 EPQ
Lot #74584 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 125.00 - $ 250.00)
Series 692 $1 10/7/70 - 3/15/73 First Printing Replacement
A meager six examples have been graded by PMG. Minor rust is mentioned as there is a tiny speck on the back.
Grade: PMG VF 25
Lot #74585 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 1,500.00 - $ 3,000.00)
Series 692 $5 10/7/70-3/15/73 First Printing
Surprisingly PMG has graded a 68 EPQ better than this one, with the two services having graded a handful of 67s as well. This exact same note was formerly housed in a PMG Superb Gem UNC 67 EPQ holder, with the additional comment of 'Great Embossing' included on the label. A state of unusual bipartisan consensus between the two grading services should instill quality as to the quality of the current offering. This note, when graded by PMG, sold for over $1,750 in a January 2016 sale.
Grade: PCGS Superb Gem New 67 PPQ
Lot #74586 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 50.00 - $ 100.00)
Series 692 $5 10/7/70-3/15/73 Cancelled
These are seldom seen cancelled. Stamped on note says "Not negotiable. VOID. Valid as evidence only".
Grade: VF
Lot #74587 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 1,250.00 - $ 2,500.00)
Series 692 $10 10/7/70-3/15/73 First Printing Replacement
Really a rare replacement in any grade, but especially so without any problems whatsoever. We have only seen a couple hit the auction circuit in the past many years, both of which had problems yet still easily scaled the four-figure threshold. The combined Population Reports show that VF 35 is the nicest one seen. This same note first sold at auction in the past few years for over $1,500.
Grade: LCG VF 25
Lot #74588 - Military Payment Certificates - ($ 200.00 - $ 400.00)
