This is a rare type with the large brown seal from the department series of 1882. Just 35 reported and this is a nice mid-grade note with a close top margin. A PMG XF 45 realized $39,600 this year, while a lower end VF brought $7,800 a couple years ago. Dean always liked these brown seal early golds as they would not have been legal to own when he started, which likely fueled his interest.
