BEAUTIFUL SEWARD
Large Size Type Notes > Treasury Notes
Fr. 376 $50 1891
Grade:
PMG Ch. XF 45
The Seward $50 1891 Treasury Note is a one of a type example as it is the only $50 Treasury note issued. The census indicates the first seven notes were saved and possibly the last note as well. While I am not sure which are in institutions, they are known and generally in high grade. Dean's note is about the next best and while it was graded UNC in the 70's, I remember it was less than UNC. A wonderful example that has been trimmed by someone more than half a century ago. As for the minor repairs, under black light it appears to be a spindle hole repair on the collar and some light corner work. From the Connecticut Historical Society and M. Vernon Sheldon Collections (Bowers & Merena 1983).
